Since the Brexit Vote the People of the United Kingdom have all become Brexit experts. However none of us have had to walk the fine line between Political Will and People’s Will and stay afloat – as PM May has had to.
PM May knows we should stay in the E.U but PM May also want the Tories to remain in Power. Voting in Corbyn will be as entering a Time Machine and landing in the midst of the 1970’s where the Unions had the key to Number 10 and business was there to be taxed ever harder.
I would have never taken the U.K down the road PM May has. I would have used the result of the vote to gain support from other member states for major reforms of the EU. Cameron never really negotiated very hard with the E.U as he believed the Vote would be a ‘walk in the park’ for remaining in the E.U.
PM May has also had to deal with the ace knife-throwing back-stabbers Gove and Johnson who no doubt have already measured up the carpet at Number 10.
However, it is the People who must decide now if PM May’s Chequers deal should be accepted. Not the MP’s and not Johnson.
The people of the U.K know so much more about Brexit now then when the Brexit vote was taken. I believe that a second vote is well in order to ensure that the People decide the fate of the Nation.
It would not be a climb-down and I believe that it will give PM May the mandate for either ‘in’ or ‘out’ of the EU that is needed as the current one is too weak.
PM May has done well and no doubt believes that the Chequers proposal is the right one for the U.K
PM has been naive and too soft with the EU – there is still time to harden up. For whatever reason PM May seems to believe that another vote would be a sign of weakness whereas I see it as a symbol of ‘listening to the people’
