Why did the British people celebrate the death of their ex-prime minister Margaret Thatcher?

My answer to Why did the British people celebrate the death of their ex-prime minister Margaret Thatcher?

Answer by Desmond Last:

I am British. Born in London. I did not celebrate the death of Baroness Thatcher. Some did. Many mourned.

I mourned the passing of a woman who put Principle and Public Duty before selfish ambition.

I had so always wanted to meet with Baroness Thatcher and with my Poetry write of her life as one of the United Kingdom’s greatest Prime Ministers. I will always regret not being able to do so.

I was not a Baroness Thatcher ‘no matter what’ supporter. I was a shop steward at Renault Vehicles Industrial at Dunstable when the Miners strike was taking place.

I stood with the Miners at Didcot Power Station as we blocked the Coal Lorries from entering. Some of the Police were less than friendly.

I run as the mounted Police charged at us as we blocked the entrance to Downing Street.

I wanted the miners to have a future. I was not supporting Scargill I was supporting the miners and their communities

But I also knew that we needed to make sure that it was the Government that was voted in who managed the Country not Derek Robinson and Arthur Scargill. Unions represent the workers. It is our M.P’s who manage our democracy.

Baroness Thatcher changed Europe for the better and was instrumental in reducing the nuclear threat.

No Prime Minister since has had the ‘Principle and Dedication’ of Baroness Thatcher.

Yes Baroness Thatcher did not get it all right and when she got it wrong it was ‘very wrong’. But it is that she had a Vision, new ideas and an enthusiasm for her Nation that I admire. Who has that now? Nobody. Today it is all gloss, spin and old ideas reborn.

Even during the last day’s of Baroness Thatcher as Prime Minister she put duty before ambition. Her ‘men of straw’ were able to plot her resignation whilst Baroness Thatcher carried out her duty at the E.U negotiating table.

Despite the best efforts of Theresa May and David Cameron, whose Governments have ensured my writing has been ignored, I will one day do my duty and show my respect to a great woman by writing the life of Baroness Thatcher with my Poetry. It will be an honour and a pleasure to do so.

Why did the British people celebrate the death of their ex-prime minister Margaret Thatcher?
