My answer to What are the Sharia courts in the United Kingdom and should we ban them?
Answer by Desmond Last:
Sharia Courts should be subject to explicit legislation which states and ensures they have ‘no legal standing’.
This is the United Kingdom not Syria or anywhere in the Middle East.
It should be made very plain that any judgment issued by any Sharia Court can only be used as advice or as guidance in a dispute or ruling. None of which can be imposed on anybody in the United Kingdom.
Cultural differences in the U.K are now a matter of course but it is important that sectors of the U.K community do not feel they have a right to impose laws other than the laws of the United Kingdom on their people.
I personally welcome all cultures and all faiths. But do not want to see the United Kingdom turned into something it is not.
The Legal system of the U.K should be the only legal system and it must apply equally to all of us.
