How is Oliver Cromwell viewed in the UK today?

My answer to How is Oliver Cromwell viewed in the UK today?

Answer by Desmond Last:

I can only give you my opinion because Oliver Cromwell is rarely discussed which is a shame as now more than ever the United Kingdom needs new Leadership.

By ‘Leadership’ I do not mean a new Leader but I mean a new type of Leadership one that like Oliver Cromwell’s has the heart of the Nation at is core. Not as in U.K modern Politics ‘ what is best for selfish ambition and the Party’.

To me Cromwell is a not only a Leader but he is a Principled Leader.

The word ‘Principle’ is a long-forgotten word in the Politics of the United Kingdom.

In fact it is now a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder. Theresa May sold her Principle to ‘Saudi Arabia’ when May decided that children lives in Yemen were worth the x £ of U.K arms exports.

David Cameron sold his Principle when he tried to ram the E.U down the throats of the U.K people who were already had stomach full of his endless spin about the economy and immigration.

Tony Blair sold his Principle to George Bush in exchange for the lives of British Soldiers and Iraq civilians.

Which brings us to Margaret Thatcher. Baroness Thatcher resigned rather than give away her principle. With Maggie disappeared the last of our Politicians who put Nation before Party.

The U.K is lost in the many lies and half-truths now told by their Politicians who seek their vote but then disregard their loyalty and needs.

We all listen to Theresa May and we know that May is ‘spinning’ both the economy and immigration. We all listen as May cuts Police Numbers but does nothing about cyber crime or child sex abuse. But what is our alternative?

Little wonder then that I compare Oliver Cromwell and his actions to modern day U.K Government. If ever the U.K needed a ‘new broom’ it is now.

The U.K is rudderless. The Government stinks of hypocrisy and lies. It is almost a repeat of the time of Oliver Cromwell where Parliament sought for itself that which its people had not.

Theresa May should be careful. The history of this Nation is littered with those who ’thought they had’ when in fact ‘they had not’.

May may not be King but she acts as if she were to be one.

The U.K needs a ‘Cromwell’.

For me Oliver Cromwell is the Guardian of our Democracy. He is to remind us that if we want Government then it must be good Goverment. Nothing else will do.

The People of the United Kingdom must stop accepting the mediocre and demand the exceptional.
