My answer to What is the best small motorcycle for long distance touring?
Answer by Desmond Last:
I would suggest the new Harley-Davidson 750. Big is better when touring. A smaller engine will have to work harder with the combined weight of possibly the rider and the passenger. In addition you will need to carry your clothes and personal effects.
I rode my 883 Harley across America and up to Canada then down to Denver Colorado.
My 883 never missed a beat, handled the potholes and was good on fuel. I was surprised as I had never before ridden a HD long distance.
The new HD 750 is liquid-cooled with gives lower fuel consumption and lower engine noise.
There is a comprehensive range of touring accessories and a good dealer network.
Having spares and repairs back-up is important when touring.
The HD750 is exceptionally well-priced and well worth a look.
