My answer to What's the pettiest thing anyone has done to you?
Answer by Desmond Last:
I was at the John Radcliffe Hospital with my mum who is 87. Mum had been admitted on a 999 call because of her deteriorating health. I asked if Transport was going to be available to take mum home.
Mum can hardly walk and can only be transported by stretcher or wheelchair.
Well out he came. The Jobs Worth. The reincarnation of Adolph Hitler. The man whose sole mission in life is to put one over on you in any way he can.
He told me that as mum could walk 5 steps with a frame and assistance she would have to get a Taxi Home. Now in circumstances like this you must be ice-calm. The ‘Jobs Worth’ will be itching to call the Riot Squad to deal with you.
My mum was bombed by the Germans in World War 2. My father fought with the R.A.F in World War 2. Mum deserves better. Mum has never let me down. I could not believe the way in which the ‘Jobs Worth’ was willing to treat mum.
Such was the disgusting way he spoke about my mum as if she was some minor detail a nurse said to afterwards that she was embarrassed by the way I was dealt with by the ‘Jobs Worth’. I got my way after a prolonged argument.
Mum was taken home by the ambulance. My stand ensured the ‘Jobs Worth’ gave in to commonsense.
