My answer to What do you think about torturing for information?

Answer by Desmond Last:

Once you allow torture you then take away all of the rights we stand and fight for.

Whilst I support Donald Trump I do not understand why he made a statement supporting waterboarding unless to give support to an interrogation system that is being used. Somebody somewhere will be saying ‘well Donald Trump said it was ok’.

I know from my own personal experience that when you are subjected to extreme forms of mental and physical torture you become only more determined to stand up to those who are hurting you. I will never give in to those who have tried to harm me and will seek justice in every corner of the World.

A cause and a faith will give you the strength to defeat those who are trying to harm you.

It also leaves a permanent disgust of those who have treated you in such a way.

In my case I will use the law to seek remedy for what has been done to me.

But for others it will lead to trying to destroy the people of the country who commit the torture by any means possible.

We must have a benchmark for our standard of behavior.

I also know that a clever and smart interrogator will get more out of a prisoner than waterboarding. You have to understand and in some respects agree with why it is that the person you are interrogating is prepared to die for his or cause. I imagine for some in the CIA that is not possible.

We cannot fight for the advancement of the human condition and then when it suits us revert to the same level of violence we seek to stop.
