My answer to Is there anything we can do to stop the killings in Aleppo?
Answer by Desmond Last:
Each Government who is a signatory to the Universal Deceleration of Human Rights has a legal and moral obligation to stop the barbaric behavior of all those involved in the ‘Killings of Aleppo’.
Each pilot, ground crew, fuel supplier, air traffic control, military liaison etc has the legal Right and obligation to disobey any order that is illegal – the bombing of Aleppo is illegal.
The precedent was set after World War Two – the Nuremberg Trials. It is illegal to obey unlawful orders. The convicted Nazis used a defense that they were ordered to carry out the illegal acts of the Concentration Camps- their defense was rejected and they were convicted.
We cannot continue to ahve two legal systems. If you or I were to kill a child we would be charged with murder.
Article 30 of the International Convention of Human Rights is black and white – there are no exemptions from any of the Human Rights in the Convention – not in war or Peace. There is also no exemption for Ambassadors or members of any Royal Family.
What you can do is to send letters to the Syrian and Russian Military warning them they will face war crimes courts at a later date for the killing of civilians in Aleppo. You can also send letters to the Russian and Syrian Ambassadors in your country.
You can also let your Government know, this includes the E.U, that they also will be held responsible for allowing the ‘killings of Aleppo’.
It is our Governments who are letting these barbaric acts take place and it is they who should stop them.
