My answer to What should be the Key Discussion points be during the upcoming Obama-Xi summit at the Hangzhou, China…
Answer by Desmond Last:
Obama should have been highly critical of a Climate Change Agreement that is not mandatory.
As Sir Geoffrey Palmer Q.C stated in his evaluation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement for the New Zealand Government ‘Binding Obligations: are they sufficient?
Obama instead chose to justify his 8 years as President by self-congratulation.
A key discussion point should be how to ensure that the obligation of the Paris Agreement becomes a legally enforceable mandatory requirement.
Another should be to expand the membership of the G20. Cartels hold back progress. The World is no longer the province of a few. It is the participation of the many.
‘New Economics’ should also be on the table. The existing system of regulating capital flows and liquidty after it has become a power for misuse, rather than when it is being formed has failed the world. Capital ownership has become centralised and in doing so has compromised composed the sovereignty of economies whose central econmic system has failed its people.
The method of giving money to developing countes has failed. Funds should only be provided for self-sustaining projects. Donar Aid makes money for the rich not the poor. No actual capital should be transferred. All costs should be paid by an audited system.
The cost of out of control conflicts and the after cost is escalating. Climate Change refugees will soon require more funding. Where is all the money going to come from?
The increasing cost of Militarisation should be discussed. It is Alice in Wonderland to sit down together whilst arming because of mistrust.
But these points will not be discussed. The usual self-congratulation will occur and the World will as usual accept the insanity of it all.
