My answer to How much impact have food trucks had on the lunch business of normal restaurants?

Answer by Desmond Last:

For 7 years I was the General Manager of Matilda’s Food Trucks in Sydney. We sold the business for several $million to Spotless in Melbourne. We had 40 Trucks and 90 staff.

People who use a Food Truck do so for a reason; time. Most companies that have mobile food trucks that serve their staff welcome the service.

Provided the food is good and is on time they are ensuring their staff do not have to go off-site to get their morning tea and lunch.

Building sites use mobile trucks a lot, as building sites are sometimes miles from a sandwich shop.

Static Food Trucks do not have the range of food a restaurant has but are on the pavement when you are in a hurry.

Restaurants are not surrounded by lots of food trucks. It is the sandwich shop on a business park that is most affected.

The Food Trucks biggest advantage is convenience. It worst is that you cannot be everywhere at morning tea and lunch.
