My answer to What if everyone in the world went on a hunger strike for world peace?
Answer by Desmond Last:
Right now in Aleppo Syria children are being murdered. In other parts of Syria bombing has intensified. In Yemen children are being murdered by Saudi bombs made in the U.K.
Our Governments know it is illegal. Yet they do nothing. Zero. Absolutely nothing.
Many of them will of course go to church today (Sunday), to a mosque or temple and pray to God for their salvation. Which of course he will ignore and wait for them at the gates of Hell.
So why would a hunger strike stop children and their families from dying daily of malnutrition and disease? It would not make any difference.
Our world leaders do not have the political will or the moral backbone to stop the war in Syria. Yet if they worked together they could stop very quickly.
How then can they be expected to be able to react as one to a world hunger strike? They each seek their own political interest, even though it eventually works against them.
The system of Aid provision is corrupt. We must address the method by which we seek to alleviate poverty. We must stop giving money and instead provide loans for sustainable economic development direct to the communities. We must not hand over any actual ‘cash’. We must instead audit and pay all costs direct through a capital allocation fund.
What would provide an insight into how desperate food aid is becoming, as aid donations are reduced to the U.N, would be for schools to provide for one day the food that children refugees are given.
Young people need some reality in their lives. They are the ones who should be protesting to Governments.
Western middle-class children have more economic advantage than at at anytime in history. Playing Pokemon while their fellow children die of hunger and war is a divorce from reality that does not empower them as future world citizens.
