Jobs worths live for moments like this. Their whole life is dedicated to making you feel as small as possible and they as powerful as possible.
Even better if they have an audience. I met a job's worth coming back into the U.K from a day trip to Paris.
I was born in London and am a U.K National.
I had used my Australian Passport as my U.K passport had been stolen whilst living in Sydney.
“No. We cannot let you into the U.K”.
I looked round for Alice in Wonderland. The Jobs worth got back-up. They always materialise from nowhere ready to handcuff you, just in case you dare argue with them.
“I have just come from the U.K. Go check I am English”.
It took about 30 minutes of me insisting I had every right to enter, even without a passport.
Jobs worth went into a huddle. Then after a phone call to MI5 and the Prime Minster to make sure it was ok to let me in – I was let in.
They in fact checked my ID with the U.K Passport Office. As long as you can prove who you are they will let you in.
