Amazing – we (the U.K) used to make every motorcycle in the World – now we just deliver every motorcycle in the world.

I have looked carefully at the Royal Enfield when it is new and used. I do think you have anything much to worry about. The standard of manufacture appears to be very high – they obviously take a lot of provide in their work.

You have two tests. The stationary and the dynamic.

Paperwork is also very important. You will need to ensure you have legal title, a warranty and insurance. Make sure you understand the warranty before you pay for the motorcycle.

If the seller is not responsible for the warranty repair then do not buy the motorcycle. Make sure the seller is an authorized dealer for Royal Enfield. If finance is involved make sure the financier is licensed.

Carry out the initial inspection before you buy the motorcycle – once you have paid for it you have lost the buying advantage.

For the initial stationary inspection use a check list – the dealer will have one. If you find any defects insist they are repaired before you buy it. The first service conditions should also be explained to you.

If you can, do the road test before you buy it. But it is unlikely the dealer will allow it. Make sure they have carried out an inspection and road test and it is documented. Also make sure there is enough petrol in the tank.

When you first ride the motorcycle carry out a methodical test from brake to steering to lights and accessories. You are checking to make sure that the motorcycle is braking smoothly, is not vibrating, is pulling smoothly, that the clutch is not juddering and there are no noises from the engine that stand out.

Any doubts go straight back to the dealer.
