My answer to How many people were still onboard Titanic as it sank?
Answer by Desmond Last:
This is a very good question as it enables me to ask this question as part of the answer. Would the Titanic still sink in the same spot by hitting an iceberg today?
Over fifteen hundred people died in the tragedy; over eight hundred of those were passengers. Only 300~ bodies were recovered. Leaving 1200 lost at sea or entombed in the wreck. Leaving 1200 lost at sea or entombed in the wreck.
The photo is from NASA’s website which shows the ice lost from the Arctic over the last few decades.
The more ice lost ,the less there is to absorb the increasing temperatures of our Planet, and the increased mass of warmer air passing over it.
Air that was previously cooled by the Planet’s Forests (heat sinks) is no longer cooled to the same degree, as the forests are cut down, and hence there is higher temperature of air to pass over the ice remains.
The sea too has increased in temperature and increased the rate of ice melting.
Therefore it is highly likely that if the Titanic were to be launched today the ice-berg would not be there to sink it.
Just as one day David Cameron and Obama will not be able to stop me making the the world a better place.
Will the Arctic still be there by the 2050 Obama has agreed to cut Greenhouse by 80%? No.
It is highly likely it will not be there by 2025.
Which is why we must take charge of our Future not leave it to Paris 21.
