My answer to How we can restore peace and order to our country when we as Somalians have endured 26 years of confli…
Answer by Desmond Last:
I have on my right arm tattooed the flag of Somalia.
Why? Because when in Sydney I was writing my development of the United Nations, which would enable a more Peaceful World ,I had primarily Somalia and Afghanistan in mind.
It is not impossible to restore Peace and Order. But the countries of Africa have to adopt a new way of resolving internal and external differences, without the West.
I always wanted to hold a New Year’s Celebration in Somalia as part of my Peace process. However as the world is finding out, instead I have had to endure 8 years of Human Rights abuse by Obama, Cameron, Turnbull and Hillary Clinton. Why they would prevent anybody from trying to make the world more peaceful I have no idea.
I make no comment about the current Government but I do not see them knocking on my door either.
You will get nowhere in Somalia until Obama and the West stop forcing their people on the people and the West stops all AID. I know it sounds terrible – stop all AID. But it is the only way to ensure you have Politicians who want democracy and economic sovereignty for their people and not overseas bank accounts for their Military and themselves.
It also stops dependency on the West and the proxy pursuit of their regional interests. How can you say F..k You Obama when he has got your next paycheck?
Al Shabab will never be defeated. How can they be? They are the young and will only gain more support as the support of corrupt regimes by the West – in particular the support of Obama and Cameron becomes more apparent.
NATO Generals marking time on fat paychecks throwing a dice to see how many more children can be killed by drones also has to stop.
NATO too needs to come under the cost-effective spotlight, lots of inflammatory speeches and rusting Military equipment does not make for effective Peace.
Al Shabab are young, articulate and not going to go away. They watch the tourists in their air-conditioned hotels , the government in their Mercedes and overseas bank accounts and they wonder where have all the millions and millions of AID have all gone?
Humanitarian aid to Somalia reached US$1.3 billion in 2011. In addition, just under US$460 million was spent on operations to assist Somali refugees in neighboring Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya that year.
Now in 2016 Somalia urgently require US$105 million to provide humanitarian assistance to over one million people in Puntland and Somaliland over the next six months. With $97 million already received against the $885 million requested for the 2016 HRP, this represents 13 per cent of the remaining $788 million required for humanitarian assistance in Somalia in 2016.
Where is all this money going and where has it all gone? Obama needs a reality check if he thinks the people of Somalia are not going to support Al Shabab.
I am going to keep a photo of a desalination plant in my wallet. When I meet Obama I am going to show it to him. This I will say Obama is the future of Somalia and they do not have any. Arggggggh its enough to make you jump off a cliff.
Why do we keep using the same failed methods to prop up governments who are not capable of running a country?
So Somalia if you want Peace you know where I am.
